Shrimp Good With Cories?

PLanning a new set up for an 18 by 18 inch tank (96 litres). The plan is to have panda and pygmy cories in there. I have always fancied shrimp and fancy after a while adding these too, my question is how well behaved are shrimp? Are they likely to eat the eggs laid by the cories? As long as lots of plantation a relatively peaceful setup?

Thanks for any tips and advice. Also what would be a recommend first timer shrimp species?

Hi Amy
Shrimps may not eat the eggs but they might have a go at catching any newly hatched, less mobile fry. My shrimps will catch live food that I feed my DPs with so...... OR..you could look into filter shrimps but check their requirements first.

Amano and cherry shrimps are ideal for first timer species

Just another note, I read that cherry shrimp in particular are good for cory breeding tanks because they will pick through the eggs and eat any fungussed ones, preventing the fungus from spreading around the whole clutch.

Hi Amy,

i keep shrimp in all of my cory tanks basically to pick up any uneaten food as they are scavengers, they also pick on any algae and help keep the tank and substrate cleaner. i think some people use snails for the same reasons but i find that they poo too much ive never seen them go for any eggs or fry though

Thanks so much for the responses guys I think I will get the tank as I want it for a month with no changes and then go for some cherry shrimp, not sure why fancy these but always have..weird lol. thank you for all the guidance x
