Hi im new to shrimp keeping.. Ive read loads of conflicting articles on the net regarding copper in shrimp food. My local pet shop gave me catfish pellets to give them but these contain 3mg/kg of copper. Is this food safe for them? also how often should i feed them....Please help as i already love my little guys........Thanks for reading

I never even realized that catfish pellets had copper in it. I fed my cherry shrimp these pellets a few times. I have lost a few of my shrimp, but I just attributed it to old age, because it was the stock I originally purchased that died, and the offspring are still alive. I cannot say for sure if the baby shrimp ever ate the pellets, but I assume they have. I would also think that it would depend on what kind of shrimp you have, because some are more delicate than others.

If you want to keep your shrimp safe with no risk, then I would feed them algae pellets. If you only have a few shrimp, break the pellets into small chunks and then drop a chunk in every few days or so, once again depending on how many shrimp you have.

Hope this helps.

I feed my shrimp (even CRS) food with copper listed on the ingredients with no issues. We're talking tiny amounts of copper here, like the amounts in plant ferts. Even shrimp need some copper to function.

Really the best shrimp food is...well, shrimp food. There's loads of varieties, check it out: http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=414_257_296

Just noticed my catfish sinkers have coppersulphate in them , 10mg/kg , tiny amount really , my shrimps like them though , they are a good size to be lifted ane carried away lol, algae pellets/wafers , seen mine eating frozen bloodworm and frozen brineshrimp as well as racing the fish for fish flake, they even ate the jelly food you can get as my fish didn't care for it much............. but as previously mentioned you can purchase shrimp pellets etc..
