It's pretty much destroyed all of it's tail and its still alive :( dying a painful death, there's nothing i can do to move them apart, it won't let go!

I've found a minnow i had a while ago with a decapitated tail, think i have my answer! Guess i should just wait then? Has anyone else had this with a fresh water shrimp?

not exactly sure, they didnt really have a clue in the shop:p

similar looking to this fella: link

edit: will he stop eating it when hes had enough? sends a horrible shiver down my spine thinking about it

I have never heard of this type of shrimp eating a fish, either you have a ghost shrimp or a male red cherry they can be very pale. How it's strong enough to hold on to the fish is beyond me. Have you looked the post titled "I have evil Shrimp" in invertebraes. I guess only explanation could be that fish was sick, not able to move and the shrimp decided to eat it. I can't see how it would catch a healthy fish. It's very sad and hopefully will be over soon.

Added: The reason why I point out that particular post is maybe your shrimp is a different type, maybe a baby version of the one from the I have evil shrimp post?? Because that one is indeed a fish-eating one.

How big is the shrimp at this time? Any pictures?

And I agree that if it was a Cherry or Amano the only way they would eat a neon tetra would be if it was sick.

There ARE however quite a few kinds of shrimp that are more than happy to munch on fish :/

There was a post on here about a long clawed shrimp, that would "fish" from high plants, and try to catch fish by dropping onto them as they swam past!

At least it isn't a mantis shrimp. Saw a couple of videos on U tube! Very vicious!!!!!

to be fair the tetra didnt look great. I've lost a white cloud to this thing aswell! If any more go missing it'll have to be a new home.

Any idea why he's doing it? I'm fond of the shrimp but dont want it in there if its either not happy or going to terrorise the other fish

edit: shrimp around 4cm at the mo
