Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could answer a question of mine please?

My dad recently bought a group of Australe Lyretail Panchax killies (1m 4 f), and since then his cherry shrimp, of which there were loads, have mysteriously started to disappear. We didn't originally suspect the killies until I was walking past the tank earlier and noticed that the male was munching on the remains of what must have been a pretty big cherry.

So can and will they catch and eat shrimp? Or are they just cleaning up already dead shrimp? The other tank mates are various tetras, all of which are too small to eat the cherries now and don't pay them any attention, some pygmy corys and a group of otto's.

Thanks for any ideas :good:

If that's all you have in the tank then I would suspect the AUS, they will take the shrimp easily.
Check your numbers again though maybe they are munching on shed carapaces but otherwise they will succumb to AUS if small enough.
Regards
C

Yup, it's definitely the killies- we've just seen them actively hunting the shrimp- and they're going for the adults too.

So we're wondering if the killies would be ok in my tank, the 180 ltr described in my signature? My female bettas don't bother any of the other fish, and don't squabble much amongst themselves much either. My tank is very heavily planted and has a pH reading of 6.4, temp is 24C.

Another question is that I want to get Bolivian Rams, would they be a problem at all with the killies if they do get added?

Many thanks :)
