i recently bought 6 cherry shrimp. Two of which have died after shredding their skin. i cant see any of my fish bullying them, and water stats are kept as good as possible. is it common for shrimp to die??

What tank mates do your shrimp have? I keep mine with very small fish. What is your water quality? It's not common for shrimp to die, unless they are old. I started with 20 I now have over 100 and haven't found a dead one, so there must be some kind of problem.

ive got neons and male guppies. ammonia is kept to 0 (going through fish in cycle) nitrite and nitrate are 0, ph 7.6

Might be your guppies having a nibble, sometimes my neons have gone for mine but don't do any damage, but guppies have bigger mouths.

Theres your problem. Your tank needs to be mature - shrimp are very sensitive to water stats - anything even small amounts of amonia/nitrite are going to cause problems and you are going to get readings if your tank is cycling!
