Shrimp Breeding Project

I want to do a shrimp breeding project over the summer, so what do I need and what's the beat way to do it? What are some easy types. I want a few different species if it's possible, and hopefully species that won't interbreed but I guess it's fine if they do......

Don't have any advice, but I was thinking of doing a similar project with only cherries and am watching this topic as we type! I've got a few cherries at the moment, and they're the greatest little creatures you could ask for!

I already have a potential buyer lol. My neighbor just bought his betta a 3.5 gallon setup on my advice, with a filter and heater. I told him to get 5+ so he could have fish too, but now I said he can get shrimp instead and he told mr he'd pay $1 each if they're high quality but I may give them to him for 50¢. Also have a freshwater addict with a bunch of shrimp tanks looking for cherries and other types, but doesn't wanna order them.
I just think itd be something fun to do over the summer. Glad we have the same idea lol.

I've just done a lot of reading on shrimp, so now I just need to know what is the best stuff to use, and the best way to get them to breed.

Cherry shrimp are the best place to start mate very easy. My tank may aid in some ideas

Ok I'll order a ten pack of cherry shrimp. I'm thinking a 10 gallon, black sand substrate, Taiwan moss and some other live plants like dwarf hairgrass, anubias etc. then what entices them to breed or do they just do it?

I am trying to breed my red cherry and orange I have seen some very small babies but only about 4, I have got 7 orange and 10 red cherry think the first misstake I did was having a undergravel filter now got a sponge filter.

the other thing to watch for is nitrite the shrimps hate it so need to do a water change most days, going to do mine shortly just tested it and got very slight nitrire showing but no ammonia hopefully another change will get ride of it


from want people say if the water is right and you have lots of plants and the right filter they just breed like rabbits

If the filters cycled there shouldn't be nitrite anyways....
I'm also interested in breeding sunnier shrimp and tiger shrimp but I'll start with cherries for now.

FYI you may find that your orange shrimp are not cherrys and go under the name of sunkist which will show eggs but the shrimplets will die unless raised in brackish water

What about the Sakura orange shrimp?
How do you think my setup plans would do?
Any enticements to get them to breed?

That explains why I've never seen shrimplets from my orange shrimp BigBruiser.
I have some kind of black shrimp & cherries, they don't need any inducement to breed, just good water quality

we have seen some shrimplets from the orange before we added the cherry that was before we changed the filter and thought they was being sucked into the gravel
we thought they could be sakura, were we got them from had lots of little ones in the tank they breed there own to sell,

I have put a black back ground on the tank so when they are on the back we can see them better I don't clean the back so its nicely covered in algae

Larval Development: Young Orange Sunkist shrimp hatch as larvae and require brackish water in order to mature.
