I have just seen my lovely big red tailed guppy have a sort of small hole/split in his tail
a few other guppies have got shredded tails at the end

Im worried as my ammonia and nitrite are 0pmm and nitrate is 40 ppm
I did a 20% water change this wednesday i think
Now ive just seen this "hole"

I dont know what to do as i have already brought medicine for Internal parasites

The fish look happy and are swimming as usual but im worried!

Any fin nipping going off in the tank.
Myxazin by waterlife for bacterial finrot.
Have you wormed the fish and is the med out of the tank,.

I doubt its fint rot. around 3months ago i had goldfish which had it
I can see the difference

No fin nipping i only have tetras
I havent put in the medication yet, im waiting for it through the post.
Im sort of worried now that it could be my air pump and filter
But this shouldnt be the problem!
I think its just wear and tear because they have been in my tank for a month.
Hate to see them go really really would.

Holes in fins is finrot.
Is the goldfish still in the tank.

Internal parasites cause bacterial infections they do alot of damage to the organs and brain.

Thats an interpet med yes.
Its not that great on finrot but you could give it a try.
I find the waterlife med alot better.

Confused as what to treat first

when the internal parasites med arrives

I would treat the internal parasites first.
Finrot is being caused by the parasites.
Which med have you ordered.
Internal parasites do alot of damage to the insides of the fish and sometimes the med to late as the damage has been done.
You treat the tank to save the rest of the fish.

The one you recommended me cant remeber name now
Ok i will just wait for that that

I hope they hold on they arent acting strange yet *cross fingers*
Wow the ammonia and nitrate and nitrite arent everything
Thought i was doing good until they started being ill :S (the ones which have died this week)

How much of there tails have they lost.
Are they struggling to swim.
Once guppy gets finrot on top of something else they rarely make it.
Is it this med or wormer plus I recommended.

Yes i brought it

Ouch... i creep round my door now and it reduces me to tears when i see a dead fish :(
I hope they do.. its really early days for the fin rot
as i do always look at them
They arent acting any differently
not much tail has gone none on the outside of one, a little hole around 80% of the way down
and the other two tails are slightly shredded/frayed no change since yesterday

So the med you got is the one that I left the link to.
Doubt the finrot med will do anything till the worms have been killed first.
Its up to you if want to treat before the med arrives.
Had guppys and had no luck with them so stopped buying them.
Sick to death of them dying.

Yep i just thought i could handle them since i cant really like another type of fish as much.
Well im doing the best to my knowledge (dont know whether thats good or bad!)
Whereas my tetras are fine :S
Weird

I love guppys.
Even wormed than and in excellent water quality but still died.
They would get finrot and die.
If you still want to keep guppys try and find a breeder of them.
Never buy guppys that are showing signs of being thin and have frayed fins.

All of them i brought i went for the most simple ones as i learnt one breed all died...
Oh dear. i should always prepare for the worst :S
Sad
