I bought a Ghost Shrimp a few weeks ago, and a couple of days ago I noticed a dark brown square patch on its back. It wasn't there when I bought him, and I thought it may of been babies, but I read up on it and it is not. It is a parasite or something or is it normal for him to have that discoloration?

You are most likely seeing his/her internal organs or full bowls ( time for a poop )

mine do it from time to time, green/brown/red depends on what I feed them..

don't worry about it to much..

:D

Its more as if one of his skeletal plates on his back has turned brown.. its got long fungus looking stuff growing off the top of it as well.

is it on just one of the shrimp? shrimps colour does change light to dark depending on mood time of day and amount they have eaten. if it is growing and getting darker then it prob is a parasite or fungas.(thats if it is defernetly on the outside) otherwise it might just need a poo!
