i have a pair of breeding koi angle fish in my 180l tank. I have had them about 6 months and they lay eggs regularly. however recently they seem to be more aggressive to each other.

the female will put her fins up making her self as big as possible and shake whilst looking at the male. the male will do something similar then one will charge at the other hit it just below its mouth. the female has lost some of her fins in the past. however they are laying eggs still

is this just natural or would it be better if they were in a bigger tank or should i separate them all together

thanks

It's natural, breeding fish are not show fish, some tearing of fins & sparring is to be expected. Do understand that some pairs can be very passive to each other, others can be more aggressive, up to and including killing their mate.

These things can change, sometimes quickly, that's part of dealing with cichlids. Anyone dealing with cichlids should at least keep a divider handy, if not another tank to separate fish if things get out of hand.
