Yes, definately worth washing it to get rid of the really fine particles. I bought some "clean" silver sand from a pet shop recently. I tipped it into a bucket of water and it went brown and cloudy! I just stirred it all up and poured the cloudy water out of the bucket slowly. The sand will stay at the bottom, so you shouldn't loose much at all :)

its fine to use, aka silver sand

make sure you wash it though like said its not clean at all when it meets water

I think by "clean" they mean "safe for children". This doesn't mean it hasn't got fine dust in it which for the aquarium is going to make the water all cloudy. Argos Play Sand at £3.50 for 15kg is a bargain, and has been used repeatedly by members of this forum (and others) without problems :) Might be buying some myself soon... If I don't go with the Hagen black riversand idea...
