Should I Make This Bet?

kids are more responsible than what people give them..... They like to be rebelious though, if you go to france where there is no legal drinking age the amount of kids that party just to get drunk is a lot lower than it is here in the us with a drinking age of 21. Kids do it here for fun and to make them seem "cool", in france they do it as a normal thing and dont get totally hammered just because they can......

So gamble if you want, no ones gonna grow up unless their parents let go.... like no kids gonna walk if you keep carrying them.

-Just so you know the legal drinking age in France is sixteen. Not sure where you heard that...

-I do agree with you though that in general, they dont drink to get drunk as it is a much more relaxed culture.

I never used to buckle my seatbelt unless told, so one day, my dad threatened to charge me 25 cents everytime I didn't, and from that day on, I always buckled up.

sister told me after she went to france on a 4 week exchange trip....

As for the seatbelt, you didnt specify why you didnt want to wear it in the first place. Nor how old you were, i mean 8 year olds arent old enough to walk on their own (metaphorically speaking) so this is a good time for parents to intervene. But if your like 15-16, then you should be able to make your own decisions and if you mess up, you are the only one to blame. Not saying you will though....

I guess a lot see it from the childs point of view.

Adults have many ways to try and bring children up to be responsible adults and as we all know either cleaning out the cat litter or even changing the water in the fish tank the novelty can wear off. I think your not lazy just human but how embarrassing if your friends see it smelling!!!

In France yes the rate is lower over 16 for children being drunk however the French do not tell you the accident and emergency figures for children under that age with alcohol poisoning.

It is unusual but still happens mainly accidently in Britain but often in France it is deemed cultural rather than a mistake of the parents.

French turn there backs where as in Britain the child protection and parenting orders would be in place very quickly.

I still think today we have children and its good to get them to do things as responsible people but if your an adult why have a child slave.

I get far more done in way of chores from my daughter if she has rewards. I recently told her if she didn't do her homework I would make her tidy her room and she had until after tea or she would lose going to a friends sleepover. Her homework and her room were done without delay. I not only got that done I did not have to suffer her when grounded which I have only done once or twice, I cannot remember when the threat is enough.

well since you said you were little its a good thing your dad put some sense in you. Im talking about mid teens :)

Back on topic, not a good deal, tooo much to lose!

as far as the topic goes-don't do it, it's not worth it! lol.

Also, being half italian, the culture in that country is similar to france, there is a LOW legal drinking age but nobody really gives a damn so you go to a restaurant at 9.00 at night and see a 7 year old boy sat having a decent conversation with his parents and he's sat there having a nice meal, with a glass of wine. It's a much more relaxed culture over there.

A little Off Topic, but I have to agree with Musho there. I was an exchange student in High School, spent a year in the Dominican Republic and the drinking age there is not enforced. There was never any issue with kids getting totally drunk.

Theres something about this topic that kinda made me sad.

I dont gamble, so i'd say dont do it.

However i do see why your dad wants you to make the deal.
You are doing duties (cleaning catbox) so that you can do HIS duties (maintain a fish tank)
That way, when you win, he will get to see the fish tank and not have to lift a finger to help with it.

Also, you will still have to clean the catbox.

Your Dad's a crafty one.

Good call. This may be about responsibility, or free tank upkeep. The only difference is the fact you get to maintatank and stock as you want.
