Well, basically I want to make a fishforums wannabe, but don't worry I won't use any copyrighted material. I'm thinking either to just make a forum like this or to make a site with links on it such as "How To Cycle A Tank", etc, pretty much things for begginers, and then have a forum. What are your thoughts on this, i'd really like to make it like TFF, except using my own information, do you think it will be worth it?
All opinions, thoughts and comments appreciated.

only if you have the time to keep it updated and dont expect too much from it

honestly? and its nothing against you at all but dont bother.

theres too many out there already.

thats half the problem with web design, its normally already been done about 1000 times when you think of it :/

try think of something real different to do then.

how about a newbie guide step by step but do it so its like a program that takes you through it on your webpages instead of jus a list.

erm...

would be good if it somehow recorded peoples info too into a database or something so then you could diplay what everyones using (tank size, filter, heaters, substrate etc) at the end or on another page.

Totally wrong. Many forums succeed when there is already a market, or the niche has already been filled. Ok, it might be harder, but you need to give your forum an edge to others.

Be unique, be dedicated, show that you have better quality information and your half way there.

A forum needs alot of time and effort, and no, they dont all succeed. Go to places like theadminzone.com to find out more about running and establishing an online community.

It can be done, and if your passionate about the topic/s, your on your way top a community already! :good:

its not totally wrong at all.

how may new websites are made each day? how many actually get anywhere. i dont kno the figures but i bet less than 1% of sites made actually get a decent following.

and Neal knos what i mean anyway....

i guess it depends... are you wanting to make a website or a forum? if its just a website with newbie fishkeeping links, then there are an abundance of those and you'd need to be really special in your approach. if its a forum, then listen to Miagi.

if you're just wanting to experiment with web-design, why not start a blog? blogs present opportunities to use all sorts of fancy coding and elements of visual design. plus, what better subject to write about than your own life?

Thanks for all the inpute guys:
Mr Miagi - Thanks for the inspiration, i'm very into fishkeeping, and I have many contacts who I could ask to put links on their sites, i'd basically just take dribs and drabs from different places and stick them together sort of thing, also adding my own content. Well, I come on the computer every day, so I have plenty of time, and effort, i'd be willing to give.
Sam - Yes I do understand where your coming from, but it still could become big, do you think TFF was the first forum about fish? Many new sites that are made every day don't get big because the owners obviously don't care about them enough, i'd be advertising it all over (apart from other forums etc), i'd have people linking me etc.
Pica - I'd like to make a forum, but that would really just be copying off TFF, as this is where I got the idea. My life is not exciting at all, so I think a blog is out of the question for me.
Keep your comments/suggestions rolling in.
