We just noticed a tiny fish in our tank a few days ago, we have no idea where it come from, but thought it may have come in the bag from the pet shop as we bought 3 new fish on Saturday...then two days later we saw another one, so now presuming one of our own fish has given birth, but there is definately only two babies...might only be one now as we haven't seen the other one for a day.
My question is...do we try to catch this baby (or babies) and put them in a net, or do we leave them to fend for themselves? The one we keep seeing appears to be getting more confident and coming out from it's hiding place more and more often. Last night a couple of our fish *went* for it, but it's so fast it got away! I don't know if they were trying to eat it or just chase it. This morning it was out again swimming around, and one of the danios went near it but it didn't look like trying to eat it, just nudged it out of the way.
I don't know what to do for the best...we are pretty new to this, only had our fish for a couple of months...Help ?
Thanks

im peruming thi is a livebeare right?

Depends on what you want really, if you want to keep them and raise them, then a breeding net will be best to make sure they are safe from other predators, if you aint bothered then let them fend for themselves, if the tank is well planted and many hiding places, then the chances of them surviving are better :)

Welcome to the forum :)

Well, we have two Dalmation Mollys in the tank, and the new fish we added were Platys, so I'm presuming the babies came from one of those, if not in the bag from the shop. We also have 5 Zebra Danios but they lay eggs...right?
Now that I've watched the little fish, I wouldn't like anything to happen to it/them, but I think catching them now to put them in a net is going to be a bit difficult, the one we keep seeing is so fast when any other fish come near to it, I can see us having a problem actually catching it. I really don't know what to do aaarrrggghhhh!
The tank does have quite a few plants and things in it so there is plenty hiding places..but how big does it have to grow before another WON'T eat it, and how long do they take to grow?!
