my 10 gallon tank is almost done cycling and when its done i wanted to get ropefish would this be a good idea

i think these grow to several feet in length, so not suitable for a 10g tank I'm afraid.

then is there any other odd/strange fish i can put in my ten gal

how about khuli loaches as an alternative? Snake-like body so they might appeal.

a group of 6 would be ok, but you'll need sand as a substrate and a few caves to make them feel at home - they enjoy burrowing.

I would definitely advise against it.. Rope fish can range from 12-16" (sometimes bigger in captivity), not to mention they're usually wild caught so they require more room than most. They also prefer to be kept in groups of 3 or more since they are very social. I wouldn't recommend anything less than 90-100 gallons for a trio.

If you're looking for odd balls, how about a pair of dwarf puffers with a group of cherry shrimp.

Most of the time dwarf puffers will ignore the shrimp, but there's still a chance that they will get eaten. The only things I know that can work with dwarf puffers are oto catfish and cherry shrimp. But like I said, it's still a bit risky, putting anything with a DP is taking a bit of a risk.

dont mixed pea puffers with cherries. They will destroy ANY shrimps. I tried them with otos before too... they constantly nipped at them. If you want peas, you shouldn't try tankmates.

However, there are still many other oddballs for 10g. A butis butis is really cool and does well. There's also khulis, hillstream loaches, etc.

i dont want puffers i was wondering if there were any strange and wacky fish that would be good for a ten gal and go together with other fish

right on with the puffer advice my man. Mine used to just rip anything in the tank to shreds...

One kind of strange fish ive always wanted to try are shell dwellers. But then again with not having sand and all in your case....

can any one actualy help me pick strange fish for my 10 gallon
