hey all,

well today i was browsing my local lfs, peered into 1 of the tanks and saw a parrotfish which had been dyed blue

I enquired about him immediately, the owner (of which I know well) said that he came in by mistake, he didn't order any parrots in. He didn't in any way look like a nice fish, i certainly wouldn't buy him. Such a shame some c0ck wants to mess with such a nice fish. :-(

I my favorite lfs sells dyed: glass fish, oscars, and tetras!!!!!!!! I asked them why, and they said that they will go out of bussiness. They are still my favorite though!

sadly there's a few shops around leeds and bradford that regularly stock them, you soon learn which ones they are and avoid them

my first post btw ;p Years ago i had an indian glass fish with red and green dye on it, i always thought there was something wrong with it too :(

my lfs isnt a very good shop but at least they have the scruples to not sell fish treated in this discusting way very very sad

Does anyone think that someone (with the know how) could actually file a lawsuit such as animal cruelty,
against people and companies that partake in this atrocity.

It's sad that if someone was injecting cats and dogs with dye to colour their skin or fur, there would be an uproar, but because it's "only a fish", it doesn't matter. I think these shops should be named and shamed.

Although, I can see it from the shop's point of view. If a shop is struggling to make ends meet, I can imagine that selling dyed fish could be desperation to draw in business from the "casual and uneducated" fishkeeper.

Yes he didn't know he was coming in, he only had one and i have never seen dyed fish there before!

'scuse the ignorance here but if a tank is labled 'painted fish' is that dyed?
I saw some in the pet shop the other day.
Wont be going back their either way there were dead fish in one of the tanks and they didn't look real clean either.
