Are there any bettas that are shiny like a gold nugget, but pure gold, no other color. Sort of like dragon betta shininess, but in gold. Could call it the gold nugget betta!

Yes they exist. Not the light gold or platinum of the pictures on here. Look at my post of Golden Dragons it's currently the tenth topic down. The two male plakats have the best 24k gold color. Unfortunately I lost a giant Gold Dragon Crowntail at 5 months old of this strain from some strange ulcers that was to be my main breeder. He was gorgeously gold. Are there any bettas that are shiny like a gold nugget, but pure gold, no other color. Sort of like dragon betta shininess, but in gold. Could call it the gold nugget betta!

I really haven't found a good answer to that question but I have never seen a "Gold" Betta that didn't have a metallic top layer. Otherwise it would be yellow or orange without it. Is it the over coat or top irredescent gold, copper; bronze or silver coloring or the reptile appearance to the scales? Maybe a combination of both. I have yet to see a factual and reliable compilation of terms. I've seen some attempts at it but they are either vague about it or contradictory. The definition of the term monster relating to green (non-masked) or white faced just kind of leaves me hanging. I don't know if a giant Betta is a result of selective breeding or a rumored different very large newly discovered sub species. If you look closely at my picture of the gold plakat his scales look like a serpentine chain necklace but the gold/red halfmoon's scales look like they are raised like a pearl scaled goldfish. I saw a picture of light gold dragons and thought I would like those but a darker 24k gold and that's what I've tried to do with my Betta's. They look like the dragons I saw only a lot darker so I'm calling them dragons until I'm told most definately that they are not. So in conclusion I'm siding with Victoria who has the web site Betty Splendens, this so called "dragon" is characterized by a thick silvery white metallic layer which almost resembles armour. I like dragons she prefers the term armadillo. As an after thought I remembered "salamander" I take it as a smaller percent of a different color like a butterfly pattern but a thin outer edging and the same pattern to the pectoral fins.Chard - so for it to be a "shiny gold betta", would it HAVE to fall under the dragon category?
