hi all,

i have just realised that 2 of my albino tiger barbs seem to be struggling to swim upright and are sort of pointing nose down and shimmying. any ideas?? should i do a water change? if so how much? all other fish seem fine.

thanks in advance

L

'Headstanding' in tiger barbs is normally nothing more than a submissive behaviour, but it can be a symptom of raised nitrite (often below the level our tests can detect), so a bit of a wc wouldn't go amiss, just to be on the safe side :good:

thanks flutter (again!) i tested the water earlier and all parameters were normal but perhaps, as you say the nitrite may not have been detectable! will wc now!

:good:

one of my platy's has started to do this tonight!!! grr...stays up by the filter intake nose down!

Too weird ... one of my youngest TBs started the same behavior (a couple of others too) but that one I put in a Q tank right away. It went from the shimmying to trying to swim bent to one side! Help!

nose down can often be over feeding too, they are greedy little gits and dont know when to stop.

this is very strange!! perhaps its international aquarium disco dancing day!! hope everyones fish are ok. x

One of my tigers does it a lot too, he's kind of the lowest of the pecking order, he'll swim with the group, but headstand if any of them show him any attention. I wouldn't pay too much mind to it if you're not over feeding, and the water is tested well.

its kind of like that but they were staying in one place. think the one on the video was chatting up its own reflection lol. they seem fine this morning. i did a water change last night. they were still doing it after but seem fine this morning. water tests are all fine and yesterday was their day for no food!! i think it must have been submissive behaviour as everyone suggested. would make sense as it was the smallest one and the one thats always been a bit skittish!! thanks for all your help guys.

is everyone elses fish ok??

L :good:

I moved all my small batch into a Q tank. The one that I filmed is no better, but no worse either. The other 4 seem a little better. I'm going to do a water change this morning to see if that helps.

And also this morning one of my silver tip tetras is hanging around the bottom of the tank. He did eat breakfast, but I don't know why he's acting weird.
