One of my molly's is shimmying a lot the last few days. Just idles near the bottom and swims in place. Sometimes eats a few bites, but generally not. I have read a bit on here about molly's and shimmy and the recommendation that the person gave was to increase the PH and mineral content.

The problem I am having with his advice is that I have a community tank and I have read elsewhere on here that changing the PH level beyond what it falls on naturally could actually pose a problem particularly to the other fish in the tank. So the question becomes what do I do?

I have a 40 gal tank and my PH is approx 7.0 (perhaps just a bit below that). I do water changes every week (generally 10-20%) and all my other ratings come within acceptability (no nitrate, no ammonium, about 50ish on the nitrate scale)

With each water change I do add aquarium salt per recommendation (1 tbs per 5 gal).

I have 2 Sailfin molly's in the tank right now. One of them has always had higher energy levels and he still seems perfectl healthy and surprisingly active. The shimmying one has his fins clamped a bit. His energy level has never been as high, but quite concerned about his behavior lately.

Other fish in the tank:
2x Sailfin Molly
1x Swordtail
1x Angel
1x Sailfin Platy
5x Zebra Daino
1x Dwarf Gourami
1x Pleco

Thought he was getting better, but then noticed red spots on him yesterday (look like open wounds) on either side of the head. I've now got him isolated. Everyone else in the tank is looking in good health.

Any advice would be most appreciated.
