My brother (the wonderful guy that he is) just came home from a trip to Cuba (and I'm ever so jealous) and the sweetie brought me a conch shell and some bits of coral.

Are these safe to put in a freshwater tank?

Thanks

Yup, shells and coral will raise your pH. If you have fish that need HIGH pH water then they can be a good, natural way to raise the pH, but for most FW tanks, they'll raise the pH too high.
