Shell-Dwellers

Hi, i have just got a new 71l tank (i have a few other tanks) & want to keep multi's, i'm not sure how many to keep in a tank this size, when PFK did a shell-dweller tank last year they had 7 in a 63l tank but i've come across people in other forums who think this is excessive despite their diminutive size. also, any ideas where to get shells from?

Hi mate, you could keep a fair few in there, more than 7 I would say as long as you have enough shells!. The shells are available on ebay and other sites or if you get friendly with your LFS they might let you have a few golden apple snail shells! Mny people use escargot shell so if you know any continental food shops they may have some. Any shells will do really, even ones that are meant for bathroom decoration etc, just make sure that you clean them properly!

thanks capester, i was thinking of 7-10 mults's (nearly £100!!) , seen escargot shells on sale on posh food shops websites(about £7 plus p&p), will look on ebay as well though.

HI, tank size sounds fine, had 6 in a 95ltr/20gall and also had them in a 48ltr/10gall with no probs. It's a shame you weren't in Stirling or Lothian, could have set you up with Multis for a lot less than what you're about to pay, have a look in the classified section, there are some Multis on there just now, as for shells I have some unused Escargot and used Escargot and Turbo shells if you are interested, PM for details if so....

That sounds like a lot for multis mate. Most shops only chrge 5-6 quid for them! I have seen a 50 litre marine tank set up for Tangs with 10 multis and shells and everything for £60 recently!

I have lots of spare multies - and you can certainly have 10. No charge.

I'm in central London and you would have to collect. Don't know about mailing fish.
