I was messing around with the camera last night and got some decent pics of my shellie tank. Pics are of mom and dad; I wasn't able to get any decent ones of the fry. Hope you enjoy them :D

They are such facinating little fish. Perhaps one day I'll have some. Lovely pics :good:

Thank you all very much for the compliments. :)

Shellies are great little fish. Tons of personality and although they are very small, they are 100% cichlid! I highly recommend them for anyone wanting to do something a little different with a small tank. I found them very difficult to find, at least they were around these parts. (Well worth the search and the drive) On the bright side, it will be easy to get rid of excess fish if the colony ever gets too big.

griz, where about in ontario are you

there is a big als in brampton, and one in oakville which always have shell dwellers

:)

I'm in the Niagara area; between Fort Erie and Port Colborne.

I've been to Big Al's in Stoney Creek many times but have never seen shellies there. I've heard good things about the Oakville store but that's quite a long drive and you know what the traffic is like on the QEW in Oakville! :X and Brampton, well, that involves driving though Toronto. :-( It's something to keep in mind though if I'm looking for something in particular. I could always call ahead to make sure what I want is in stock.

Nice to see some fellow hosers 'round here, eh!

hah yeah

in oakville, the room that you walk through to get to the fish, is a huge tank, one side is freshwater fish, and the other side is saltwater fish

its really pretty

and yes, the 403 really is busy :)

talk to ya later, eh

It is very diffuult to sex them until they mature and even then, the best indication is size.
