So ummm, I'm confused... Is it normal for Dwarf Hairgrass to shed? Or should I have been trimming it all along?

I bought some potted hairgrass from my LFS on monday. It was about 3-4 inches long at its longest and looked in pretty decent shape. In the past few days I noticed it started growing lots of fresh new blades down around the base. Then I came home today and my tank was covered in hairgrass shedding  . The fresh blades are all still there and are nice and green, so I'm going to assume that its still growing, but man this stuff is messy.

Some info on my tank:
Unstocked 20gal
Water stats: 7.8pH, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 40 nitrate, 1 phosphate
Overhang filter
Dosed weekly with Seachem Flourish after water change
1.8 WPG
No CO2
No fancy substrates
12 hour light cycle (on timer)
Dwarf Anubias
Dwarf Hairgrass

Any tips or info on what maintenance I can do to prevent this from happening again would be awesome, thanks

It is very common for plants to shed when moved. Often the older leaves are dead or dying anytway and the trauma of being pulled out transported then replanted is too much and they break free. 1.2wpg is a little low for most Eleocharis species.

did you mean 1.8 cause thats what i wrote in my post ;)

Whatever, it is less then 2 wpg which, in a shallow tank I would regard as an absolute minimum and then iffy for Eleocharis species. :p

I see... Well, if it doesnt fair well at least it was cheap from my LFS :) Thanks for the input, I appreciate it
