 Someone please help me save my bettabuddy. Ive had Sharky for about a year now and he was a happy little fish in his 1 gallon bowl. Always ate everything I fed him ( about 6 betta bites 1 time a day). I recently had the option to get a free 10 gallon tank and thought that this would be a perfect new home for him. I set the entire tank up and started the cycling process with 2 black mollies. once i though everything was well i tried to put my betta in the tank and everything was fine for a few days then recently I noticed some grayish blue spots on his head and around his gills. the amonia levels were preety high so i did a 20% watrer change and added some aquarium salt. The spots started to get a little worse and i noticed a bit of fin rot... so I took him out and put him back in the 1 gallon and continued water changes and salt. The 2 mollies have now passed on so i took the tank and cleaned everything out and rinsed it all out and set it back up again. I have now restarted the process but there are no fish in the 10 gallon. My question is what can i do to help cure my betta and should i continue this treatment in the 1 gallon or move him back to the empty 10 gallon where there is a heater although the cycling process has not been done. Please help I dont want to lose him.

do NOT move him back into that 10 gallon tank. Preferrably EVER.

I've heard (and just lived thru one of my own) sooooo very many horror stories of bettas being "upgraded" to a bigger tank and it turns out to be disastrous.

I can't post much here right now because I do have to leave, but I will return later or tomorrow to give you more advice.

But someone else will be along shortly to give you more advice. It won't be long.

I think he's just stressed out and the ammonia probably burned him a little. I would keep him in the 1 gallon with regular water changes and some anti-bacterial meds. Maracyn, Maracyn-2, or Tetracycline all work well to cure finrot.

He needs more than salt. Use Maracyn2 if you can. Sounds like he may have some fungus and start of finrot.
