i was just wondering how many types of sharks is there for tropical tank keepers i have silver sharks and i know about bala sharks but is there any more types of shark ?

plus i heard that you cant have different types of sharks in the same tanks has anyone got different types of sharks in there tanks living together ??

also should they be fed a certain type of food ??

to the best of my knowledge, silver and bala sharks are the same thing (please correct me if im wrong).

I have had rainbow sharks and bala's in the same 100gallon tank, and the rainbows were very aggressive (1 in particular), to all the other fish. I ended up taking him back to the lfs because he was stressing the other fish out (including a 12" bala / silver shark). The rainbow was only about 4"

ally there are only 3 types of sharks you can buy at your lfs

There is also the rainbow shark it grows around 6 inches. There is also the redtail shark also it grow arounf 6 inch.

you need large tanks to keep them, otherwise they are no happy and will almost certainly become agressive.

Silver/Bala Shark
Rainbow/Red finned Shark
RTB Shark
Colombian Shark Catfish - Brackish
Apollo Sharks
Cigar Sharks
Irresident Sharks/Pangasius - Not suitable for home aquaria

Given that any shark you buy at an lfs is not a real shark, you can either look at it from the point of view that there are no FW sharks you can buy at all, or that as anyone can make up a common name you could potentially label every single fish a shark.

That is my favorite answer.

It's a "Blood Red Shark!(tm)"

Or the ever present "Longfinned, electric orange shark!(tm)"
