 i have a spare 6 gal kritter keeper and it is eating away at me!i need to fill it up with something but what fish??
also
can you put a heater in a plastic tank because its plastic?
any suggestions?

Should be OK. Plastics (as far as I know) will start to melt at only high temperatures, depending on thickness and grade.

Why not breed bettas? You could use it as a spawning tank. Otherwise, it depends on your preference of small fishes. I persornally like guppies and small plecs, so that might work for you.

Has it ever housed a reptile or rodent?

If it has, the chance of getting anything to survive that lives under water in it is very slim. The amonia that is produced by the reptile or rodnet's urine gets trapped in the plastic and contaminates the water. If you want, a frog, turtle or a newt will work just fine because they can "escape" the constant intoxication from the it.

Yea, go all out and pamper him! If you think that's a waste, get a divider and you can put 2 male bettas inside there.

yeah i love bettas!!!
troutfly-it hasnt had any rodents etc in it!it has had a goldfish in 2 years ago when i won it from a fair and it died.im thinking about getting a little heater, some gravel and making like a slate cave in it.then a betta is there anything else i can put in with a betta and how can i clean it before i get him?

I would just give everything a good rinse with warm water and maybe some aquarium salt as well. As far as decor goes, make sure it is smooth and won't rip the betta's fins. If you have a spare nylon stocking you can run it over the decorations you want to use and see if the nylon stocking tears. Some things you can TRY with a male betta are cories and arican dwarf frogs. I would get like 3 cories or maybe try 5 or 6 pygmy cories if you can find them. If not, maybe try 2 african dwarf frogs.

Be careful, the male betta may not like any tankmates at all. So just watch them and see if it works out or not.

You can also buy like 5 or 6 ghost shrimp and try them out. Your betta may eat them but they are good for him.

so does
1 male betta and 3 cories sound ok or overstocked i need them to be hardy are they?
and mabe an apple snail or not?

If you plan to stock other fishes in it, don't stock them with fishes like fancy and fain-tail guppies and goldfishes. They may view them as rivials, and start nipping them in the fins.

The cories I have are pretty hardy, but they shouldn't be put through a cycling tank. Do you already have a tank you can put gravel from that tank into the 6 gallon kirtter keeper?

yer can i mix the old gravel with some new willit help
i also have some things to speed up cycling!
ammolock and bactyzym
do they work?

Yea putting some gravel from your cycled tank into the 6 gallon will help a bit. there is a filter on the 6 gallon right? Then you should run that filter in the cycled tank for a day or so and then your tank should be cycled. I am not sure if those products work, I've never used them.
