i bought two small pieces of shale and one piece of pagoda stone at the lfs today.
tested them with api nitrate test bottle #1, which contains 41% HCl, and there were tiny bubbles and fizzing after 5 drops on one piece of shale and the pagoda stone. however, the other piece of shale had no bubbles.
does failing the acid test mean that the rocks will raise my ph? or does it also mean it will leach nasties into the water?
and i thought shale and pagoda stone were ok to use.
