Hi,

One of my female swordtails keeps having like a fit. . but a controled one. Whenever another fish goes near her she freezes then starts shaking like a fit. It only last a few seconds then then she comes back round as such. She seems fine otherwise.

Is this normal??

That's strange. Do you have male swordtails in the tank too?

Is your fish being territorial? (sticking to one general area) and shaking when other fish come near her area?

Has your fish showed any signs of change? Body size.....color....eating habits?

one male and another female. She is only doing it when the non sword tails go near her.

She isnt being territorial at all she is doing it all over the tank. Also she is the same as usual no changes. Colour fine, eating well. Its really quite horrible to watch as she looks like she is paralised while doing it.

Its strange.

What are your stats? Ph, Ammonia, Nitrite?

When the fish shakes, does it just kind of "vibrate" or does it flop around and scratch in to stuff?

Need water quality in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, plus temp, as the temp fallen.
Also look for signs of parasites, any grains of salt on the fish, check the gills to see if they look pale, or red and inflamed, any excess mucas on them, also is she heavy breathing.

That seem definately like the shimmies, which only happen to mollies most of the time. I have had other fish have them, It normally is because the water is not Right for it. Definately check your params and possibly buy what are called "shimmy blocks" :D
