I have one remaining platy fry in the tank, which got missed when I took the rest to the lfs. It is probably about 6-8 weeks old (I've lost track of when the last batch were born) and swims around quite happily with the adults.

The rest of my platys are female, so if this one's a girl I might keep her, but if he's a boy, he'll have to be rehomed - I don't want to breed.

At what age should I be able to tell what sex it is? And at what age could it start getting frisky with mum and the other girls, if he's a boy?

If male, the gonopodium will grow at around 4-8 weeks .

The male will start to get frisky about 6-8 weeks old ;)

This a molly but, here is what to look for in a male. (ignore the fin part)

Thanks everyone, I'll go and have a look - it's tricky though because it's a fast mover :)

Sorry about your fish - that's a shame... I think I might end up setting an all-male tank so that I can net out the male I want and put him with the female. (getting serious about a new platy strain).

Everybody says that 4-8 weeks is fine, but I have platies that are 4-5 months old that are about 2/3 to 3/4 of their adult size and they all look female. There are 12 of them... surely they can't ALL be females?

My platys gonopodium are visible on the fry after about 4 - 8 weeks usually although it can take longer.
