sexing guppies

the males anal fin is shaped like a tube caled a gondopendium(sp?)

Also fully grown males are smaller than fully grown females, the males are usually far more colourful, but not a hard and fast rule. They also have a bigger tail fin on the females, while males tend to be longer. But the gonapodium is the biggest teller of course.

Forgive me for thinking Loachlover that your post was a complete waste of time when this had already been covered in the post, AND your post had exactly the same wording.....

Just to add, when the Guppies are young you can only use tube/fin to tell the difference in sex. It is only at around 6-8weeks that you can properly tell just by body colouration...

from time to time the guppy will point his gonopodium straight down. This is when you can really tell that it is different from the female. When the males fin is pulled up against the body you can't see it very well. The females anal fin is fan shaped like her tail.

(this is probably evident in the link given earlier but I figured i'd type it out for those to lazy to look.)
