i purchased some young guppies almost a month ago, and i thought i had separted all the females from the males, but tonight, i thought that a few of the fins looked like something halfway between male and female. they are about an inch long...is this possible, or are their fins just curled up a little? thanks for the help!! -_-

They change their sex a few months after birth, as well.

Some even change genders later on, but are infertile.

from what I read there not enothe evidence to supggest any fish can reverce, they are just late develipors.

The guppies' sex is determined at birth, but many male guppies are late developers. I've got one little guppy that had a proper gonopodioum at 5 weeks, while I had some much bigger and older guppies that didn't develop full gonopodiums until 2 or 3 months old.

I think I read something about their rate of developments depending on the ratio of male:females already in the tank, but I can't remember the science behind it.

I've heard wierd stuff about guppies changing sex too. Once i was at a store and a lady was instructing the guy to catch her one that she insisted was a female being chased around in the boy tank that was in process of a sex change. I don't remember if it was at the same time, but i heard a suggestion that they might switch genders if there were not enough of the other gender in their environment.
I'm not sure what to think about some of that stuff, but I have had some late bloomers and strange fish. i think Lumpy was the one that totally looked like a female other that the gonopodium, and i thought Hook and Twiggy were girls for months before i changed my mind, but probably not quite as long as Lumpy. He even had the other guppies fooled, but sometimes those boys pick on anybody big or fat. I don't know if their late development had anything to do with the fact that all the above fishes had birth defects, or if I just payed more attention to them because they were easier to recognize. Come to think of it , 2 or 3 of my snakeskins looked a little girly (relatively small rounded tails on relatively large rounded bodies). Maybe that's one reason why they didn't reproduce.

they are definitely becoming males...their colors have darkened/brightened and they definitely have gonopodiums. i wonder if it has to do with the sex ratio, or if they were just lat bloomers...hmmmmm....i thought there were 15-18 female fry (hard to count them all) but now i think i have about 5 males and 10 females... ;)
