don't quote me on this one but they look like both males. They look like drawf gouramis the males tend to be very bright in colour like the red you have and the female will be a dull silver colour. I have a dwarf gouramis and he is very similar in colour to your two

I think they're both males.

Could you post a close up on the secong gourami.

Hi Weejen.

It looks like you have a male and a female.

Female Gourami have rounded fins, and the males have more pointed fins.

So good luck with your new gourami! :good:

Both male. Females are a dull silver colour.

Can you get a closer picture of the second one, its hard to tell from those. The first one is a definate male.
NO the females are not just silver thats a common misconception. I have a blue female and yes it is female I am currently breeding her and my male again.

i cant get any better pic of it than i have just now. it is more timid than the other and stays at the back of the tank

 I've been trying to find out the exact same question about my own Gourami of same species.

Its incredible that nobody seems to know for sure???

I've been told mine is a female, then I was told its a male....so I'm none the wiser!

The only information I can get on Red Honey Gouramis is that their colouring is quite similar when young, but their dorsal fins differ...Males more pointed, Females more rounded...Until they reach full maturity its quite hard to sex them.

The Males become very red though during breeding and develop a black colouring....the females stay pale.

Males will busy themselves building bubble nest, females don't.

That's all I've found on it....

But to my eye, your two are definitely different....one has a more pointed fin and the other more rounded...but its a fine line, I'll admit so I couldn't be sure! ;)

(Edited to change spelling!)
