you have to click on the second from the left little box (insert image) then paste the URL http// from a free program such as photo bucket. someone else might be able to help better than me. i'm not very good myself at this!
depending on their size the female will often have a lavender coloured belly. also the first two rays on the dorsal fin are different. on one they are darker and a little longer and the other is only slightly longer than the other rays and not as dark. i think the darker longer ones are girls...or they could be boys...hmmm ?? i have some but the light is busted on the tank and i cant see any purple bellies but i know they are there lol
Imageshack.com is great. Browse for an image then press host it. Goto to the last code after its loaded and copy it. Then on the post menu, (as im typing this) under fonts theres a button saying 'Insert Image'. Press that than paste into the line. Your done!
the last post by john seems the only foolproof way of sexing the rams. while the black dorsal rays might be longer its hard to compare them at a lfs when they all look the same.
ill be checking the distance between the anal dorsal fins and the tail to sex them.
ty for all yout help.
Measuring one pair of Rams tail lengths is not going to give you the sex's for other rams to come. My picture above clearly shows the difference between sex's.
Sorry Mystix, you've confused me there a little bit... nobody said to measure the tail length.
John said that the dorsal (top) fin, andanal (bottom rear) fin, both extend beyond the base of the tail, (the bit where the tail joins the body) in males. [Admittedly, only slightly so in the dorsal, but more evidently so in the anal fin.] But is quite different, (both fins being far shorter) in females.
Your picture clearly shows this:
N.B. The lines are only at different angles because the fish are not directly side on to the camera, and are at different positions relative to one another, if the fish were both side on, both lines would be vertical.
I also don't get the bit about "other rams to come", are you talking about if they breed?
