I finally got my pair of rams today that I ordered at my local fish shop.
They were supposed to be blue, but they are gold so never mind lol. There were 2 pairs in the tank,
this 'pair' had the most colourful male. Although Im not convinced it is a m/f pair!

Here is the apparent female -

And the male -

Both of them, not the best of pics but showing how pale the 'female' can go. Other times she can be identical colouring to the male!

What I have noticed is the 'female' is smaller, and slightly paler colouration to the male. The male also has the 2 long rays on the dorsal fin. They sometimes swim together, but I have noticed the male sometimes chases the female but doesnt nip or anything. They also seem to 'flare' at eachother when they first see eachother in the tank.

Is it a pair or not?!

Thanks!

They are blue rams, Gold rams are yellow all over.

Females should get a pink belly.

Keep an eye on the apparent male (2nd pic) because it looks a bit slender/skinny. Might be worms or just need feeding up.

Oh right, Ive seen blue rams that are alot more blue than these. They also asked the price of the gold ones, not the blue.

They are both eating well at the moment, so hopefully will fatten up a bit.

Any ideas on sex?

They might be german import or just high quality rams which could explain the price. Bigger fish will also demand a higher price than smaller ones.

They both look like males currently, however they will need time to settle in and start to show off. Then you should be able to sex them easily enough. See what they look like in a weeks or so. If neither show any pink on their belly then I would say you have two boys.

Ok, thanks :)

Just now they were 'pecking' at eachother. Both of them flare their fins as if to make themselves bigger. Im pretty sure its both males though :(

Will they be OK together? Its a 45G tank with plenty of plants and hiding places.

they will be fine in a 45g tank. The tank is big enough for a couple of prs so if they both turn out to be males then get a couple of females and they can pr off. One pr will live one one side and the other pr will live on the other side of the tank. They will display and show off to each other and maybe chase each other out of their territories but they shouldn't do any real damage to one another.

I went back to the shop today to see the remaining 'pair' both had pink stomachs so I was obviously given the 2 males by accident.
Ive bought these 2, and they were both swimming around with the most colourful male at first.
They are all seperate now, when they pair off will they always be together?

Pretty sure they are both female, they are a different shape to the males and both are smaller. The pink stomachs are quite obvious at times aswell.

Thanks :)
