I'm looking at getting something new for my tank in the near future, maybe couple of weeks or so, and have been looking at severums. My tank is 90g US. 120l x 40.5w x 70.5h. Current stocking is this:

4 x Aplocheilus Lineatus (Golden Panchax)
2 x Bedotia Geayi (Madagascan Rainbow)
1 x Microgeophagus Altispinosa (Bolivian Ram)
2 x Pterophyllum Scalare (Angel Fish)
1 x Epalzeorhynchus Frenatus (Rainbow Shark)
3 x Botia Macracanthus (Clown Loach)
1 x Agamyxis Albomaculatus (Thorny Catfish)

This is where I think I may not be able to get any, my PH is around 7.5. Water is insanely hard. Just did a GH test and it came out at 22 dH. Would this completely rule me out for keeping them. If it does rule me out what would anyone suggest new world cichlid wise if any????

Well my ph is 7.8, dont know the exact hardness level but its a hard water area and I keep severums successfully, the LFS you source your fish from most likely has the same levels you do unless they use RO water which most dont unless its for the most sensitive species, so just ask what their water is and acclimatise as necessary, otherwise I cant see a problem with your stocking. But just have one Sev in that size tank if you do decide to get one.

Are they Ok keeping them singly or are they better with more than 1. Wouldn't want to get just one and it doesn't do to well. Wouldn't get a pair as by the sounds of it my tank wouldn't be sufficient for 2. Although my 2 x tetratec 1200 would take it!!!!!!

They are fine on their own :good:

and tbh 2 EX1200s isn't considered a lot for that tank size, although is adequate for your current stocking

Would the 2 tetratecs with roughly a 7 times turnover of my tank be enough with a severum in then????

A tetratec EX1200 runs at 1200lph when empty, but when media is added this is decreased by upto 50% depending on what media you use and how often the filter is maintained,
I'd say on average a EX1200 runs at about 700ish lph when full of media,

Your stocking is quite light low for a 90G so a Sev would be fine IMO

I knew it decreased with media etc, but never knew by that much, that's a hell of a lot. Cheers for that info :good:

I'm going to leave it a couple of weeks, then hopefully i'll have a severum!!

Thanks for the info guys.
