Hi everyone,

I have seen the heroes "redhead" or "rotkeil" , and I think they are the best ones, would i only be able to find these ones if i get the from the wild ? if so, would my tank water parameters need to be the same as where they came from in the wild in my tank ? or can they adjust ? Cause I have read that they are not fussy with their water needs, or is this only with tank bred ones like the gold and green colour ones ?

here is a link to pics of them

You might be able to get a lfs to order you one if their supplier stocks them.. As for water conditions, you'd have to find out what they are used to being in.

pH around 6 (although they do spawn in pH 7-7.5 here)

My ph is 7.4 from the last time i tested, so if they spawn in 7 - 7.5, then they can live in it, but the main thing is the hardness, I know that they do like soft water, mine is hard so I dont know if they could adjust

Come ooooonnnnn :p

THere must be more people that know stuff :p

i have only kept green severums and gold severums, (i personally dont like the red heads lol) but severums are hady fish and should be able to adapt, but if i were you i would find out what they are used to and then slowy reduce/increase to your normal PH.

Thanks for the reply rust, I wont get the fish if i have to adjust my ph, and mess with water, its just too much hassle, (especially on a 180 gallon tank that I plan for them) but I am still going to be researching more about them to make sure

that is a "red neck green face severum"
in northampton, kingsthorpe hollow ntheir is gm aquatics, they have a whole tank full of 2"-3" young ones for about £20 each ( there very rare i seen an adult go for £90. )
hope that helps

Oh yea, thats the one, they do have green faces, 20 aint bad, cause a shop in enfield, north london called wildwoods had them 2 weeks ago, at about 4inches, and they were 35 pound each. I still think thats reasonable, so 20 is a bargain IMO,

But the main thing i neeed to know is if wild ones can adjust to hard water, now that i think of it, i will also happily like juvies from a wild pair, they should adjust fine to hard water.

Thats the whole idea of fish keeping trying to recreate the fishes natural habbitat so yeah it's important you try and make your tank and the parameters the same as there natural enviroment, i have a severum myself and have owned breeding pair of gold sev's in the past,

pH: 6 to 7 (although softer, more acidic water is prefered for breeding

Dan.

My neighbor keeps two Gold Severums in extremely hard water. Unfortunately our tap water is very hard, but his adjusted very well and even bred.
