Well, sorry I haven't posted here lately, but I have to break it to you guys. I lost interest in fish. Also, I'm getting older, and wanting room for other stuff in my room. Sorry, it's just the kinda person I am, I obsess over things and move on to others. I'm shutting down 2 of my tanks. The 10 and 20 gallon. I'll be keeping the 45H.

I have a blue gourami and a male swordtail in the 10g. In the 45H, I have a green sev, 4 serpae tetras, 5 rummynose tetras, 3 aeneus cories, and will move the bushynose plec from the 20. The sev has gotten somewhat agressive lately towards the tetras. I was already told that the blue gourami will work in there, but will the swordtail? I know that firemouths work with them, but not sure about the sev.

Also, what should I do about the brown algae in my 45? It's getting pretty out of hand, I have to scrape too often now. I don't have a very good light, only 20W. I want to move the Bnose in, but it doesn't seem to eat the brown algae.

Thanks, and sorry about being irresponsible...

A 45h may be too small for a full grown severum, but aside from that, I don't think the sev would harm the swordtail, unless your sev is territorial :)

Cichlid compatability increases with territory size - everybody needs room to live. An adult Sev fills up and will likely claim a 45 gallon tank, so suddenly the firemouths aren't a good idea, as they might be in a four foot 75 gallon tank. With the tetra's it's important to have a good size school with larger fish - it breaks up any aggression amongst them, gives them added security, and they tend to be more ignored when they're too many to hassle. 4 is barely a school at all.

IMO once you're making the changes consider getting a smaller cichlid that will leave you room for other fish.
