Hi gang,

as i just bought my dennerle classic line co2 kit i thought i'd do a set up thread so you all know just how simple it is to set up. the JBL Profi system is pretty much identical in setup but is uses a slightly different diffuser.

so firstly here's the kit. it did not come supplied with a bubble counter so i purchased a JBL one to add on (the dennerle flipper diffuser acts as a bubble counter but i'm not using it)

and out of the box

dennerle diffuser (like a gucci nutrafin ladder)

Step 1 - connect the pressure reducer to the bottle. one screw on attachment

Step 2 - Connect one way valve to co2 hose and connect to pressure reducer

step 3 - connect free end to diffuser (i used a glass one, seen here bottom left of tank)

finally the kit came supplied with a permanent "in tank" co2 test. being dennerle it does look very smart.:hey:

so thats it, takes 10 mins to set up, all you need to do now is set the bubble rate and your away.

no more changing yeast mixtures for me (well on this tank anyway lol)

hopefully this will give some of you the push you need to go pressurised. it really is simple

Nice one Jim, if I'd not already done the same this would have certainly given me a nudge in the right direction.

And you're right it REALLY is that simple.

Im sure the plants will thank you for it with lots of lush growth. BTW you using a solenoid?

Sam

EDIT Also have you found somewhere to fill it up?

Well done, I only use pressurized on all my tanks, I just dont like the DIY's. BTW, what size c02 bottle do you have there?

no solenoid, cant be bothered with it after all the trouble with the JBL kit. keeping it simple for the time being and manually turning off at night.

regards filling the JBL 500G bottles have the same fitment so the majority of LFS can exchange an empty bottle for a full one at between £8 and 12 depending on store. at least 5 stores carry them around here so it's not a problem. they dont actually fill your bottle just swop it for a full one.

AMS: - 500g

CO2 refills at a fish/pet shop are a right con - get yerself to a welding shop !
My bottle is the same as used in a pub... about 3 feet tall and 6 inch diameter ..... £10 exchange !

Does this kit use a JBL cylinder then? not dennerle? My MHA shop only does JBL, dont think they'll do anything else.

That looks like a small bottle Jim - how often do you have to refill it?
Any idea how many liters it is?

true but in a 1 bed flat i'd be shown the door if the misses saw me come home with that. this should last at least 2/3 months.

no the one pictured is the dennerle 500G bottle supplied with the kit but the JBL bottle is identical with a different sticker on it. the JBL 500g bottle will fit on both systems. i can only get JBL bottles as well but it's not a problem.

500G, no idea on litres i'm afraid it's about a foot tall. it should last 2/3 months but i'll let you know. 24hrs down so far, hopefully it'll still be going when i get home LOL. gf225 uses the same kit so i know it will do the job.

That kit looks perfect. Where did you get it and how much does it cost? US Dollars?

Thanks

sorry mate i'm in the UK, got it from newleaf aquaria for £139 i think (approx $250/270 ish)

i'm sure you can get it over there, just type dennerle classic line in to google

Nice set, i like the defuiser

I think that price is ridiculous considering i get my 3.5kg cylinder fulled for £5, at my local beer gas suplyers.
Captive audience.

Too true, I get the one in the pic below filled up and the bottle rented for around £15 I think probably less. That puppy has lasted me over a year and their is still plenty left in it. That bottle is stood next to a Rio180 by the way so you can imagine how big that bottle is! :D

Nice guide though jimbooo lets hope a few more go down the pressurized route! :)

Do you use it with a normal aquatic reg? I've got a JBL one would it be ok with that? Pressure and fitting wise I mean?

Yeah its a normal aquatic reg its a deltec which cost me about £50 from ultimateaquatics, it accepts all standard CO2 bottles, apart from that all I bough was a bubble counter for £12 and a bit of tubing for a couple of quid so total cost of about £65 plus the rented bottle!

Its a cheap and very effective way of going pressurized, I dont really see the point in all these kits they cost well over £100 and my method does it just as good if not better as I dont have a tiny gas bottle, like I say that bottle I have has been running well over a year and its still plenty full.

I'm not sure what the JBL fitting is like to be honest maybe someone else with one of those can answer.

Anyway hope I have not derailed this thread too much as it was supposed to be a setup guide.
