Hello folks,

I am setting up a new vision 180, just filled it up tonight. I have been keeping fish for about 8 years but just dunno what to put in it.

I already have a 120 litre 4 footer which is in my signature.

Dont mention or suggest the usual fish you would find in a lfs, I want something different if I can. I had thought about black ghost knife fish but I reckon the tank will be too small. The decor will be granite rocks, bog wood, mopani wood and live plants. I haven't written of the idea of a cichlid tank but i would need to change the decor if I did.

So get your thinking caps on and give some good ideas lol.

cheers chish

yeah, a BGK would get too big, how about setting up a tank for toxotes microlepis? a smaller freshwater archerfish

you could do a green spotted puffer tank or a tank for a shoal of SAP's - then again they are more common fish

yeah those archer fish look nice, what are SAP's I cant think what it stands for lol, (scuse my ignorance) lol.

Green puffer also sounds tempting, can you keep other fish with them though?

south american puffer = SAP

for the GSP (green spotted puffer), some are hypo aggro, whilst some aren't, lol. I recommend searching/asking in the brackish section because that's what they are

How many gallons? About 45?

Are you after semi-aggressive, community, species tank, biotope etc? What do you have in mind?

I'll tell you what I'd do if I filled it up at this very moment - a few Synodontis polli, 5 zebra barbs (Puntius johorensis) and a few rainbowfish.
Or 6 chocolate gouramies with 6 dwarf chained loaches/blackfin cories and a school of rasboras such as clown rasboras.

Those are all relatively common though :p

catfish tank, plecos, banjos, shovlnose, the works!!! with the odd oddball, wish i could get a ctafish yank but my wife wont let me because she like you average fish like oscars, servums etc

scott

the synodontis (sp) are they upside down cats? or relatives of them, I have one already so I could put him in there with some mates.

i really dont know what kind of tank I want. probably a semi community tank (if there is such a thing) about 6-8 medium sized fish.

i like the idea of puffers, but not to keen on having a brackish tank at the mo.

scott, I love catfish as well, but have a few in my other tank lol, ahhhhh too many fish to get and not enough tanks lol

have toyed with piranahs as well, but mmmm not to sure, they have red bellies in my lfs

probably in the future, its got the crappy usual jewel filter but I have a sponge air type filter in it as well. Dunno what you call them its like a octagon shape sponge and you plug an air line into it and it some how it filters, not sure how good they are though.

I am definately liking the SAP's just had a look at them on google. I take it they are bottom fish, and that I would just get one?

So I would then need maybe one or two more bottom fish and the rest middle to top

cheers for the help BTW. I phoned my lfs they cant get SAP's but can get figure of eight puffers.

I asked about them and they get them from singapore retail at about £7.50 each. So I should be getting one, so I am away to the oddball section to find out more.

Not sure why they cant get sap's, he said they were hard to get hold of.

I posted in the brackish forum and got some god advice on puffers,

Cheers for all your help BTW much appreciated
