well my tank is nearing the end of cycling but before i get new fish i want to set up a quarantine tank, that will double up as a hospital tank.

I will only be getting 3 fish at a time at the MOST. I have an old 10 gallon at my g-ma's house that i will be getting soon. It has an ugf now, and some old gravel, and a few fake plants.

How do i set up a quarantine tank though?

How do i cycle it quickly?

I have an old, working filter made for a 40 gallon, can i use that for my 10 gal? (it really doesnt break alot of water so i dont think it will be too rough for the small tank. Will it be beneficial if i used both filters? Or is it just not worth it?

The tank is old and unused, how do i clean it out?

In between bringing in new fish, should i keep fish in the tank, like a few guppies or whatnot to keep the tank cycled?

thanks in advance for all your help.

I don't know if this helps any, but I usually just keep an extra hob filter on my main tank and use that if I need to quarantine or hospitalize. Then I sterilize and put it back on the main tank. This way it stays cycled and I don't have to have a quarantine tank set up at all times. I have read of people keeping one set up all the time and just feeding it or adding ammonia to keep it cycled.

thank you, i read that thread but i need a quarantine tank as well. With me about to stock my tank, it will need to be established...but i still have questions as to setting it up with what i have. (my original post)

Thank you very much for your help!
