Thinking about setting up a breeding tank for my blue rams i was wondering what i would need e.g. tank and size, size of heater, filter, air pump, treatments.

I have a internal fluval U3 filter which i could use if possible, ive heard that people put tights or socks around internals for breeding dont know whether this is a joke or not but seems logical.

This is not for definate just want to get a rough idea of price.

I would suggest a 10-15gallon gallon tank, with a lot of plec style caves, maybe some half plant pots and some nice fake plants to provide the fry with cover.
I have been breeding aspitogramma in smaller tanks but it depends on the fish sometime they get very stressed out in smaller tanks.

give them enough areas to choose a breeding place, and unless you have a paired set I would suggest buying a male and several females until a pair is made. then remove the other females and rehome.

air pump not necessary as long as your you are filtering enough, you dont want something so fast and powerful it will suck up the fry, I like to use the sting ray filters for fry tanks, I havent been impressed with them for a normal tank but they are nive for a fry tank.

As for heating just get a heater that is designed for the size of tank you choose.

Finally treatments nothing more than what you normally havem I do you Methylene blue for my cory eggs to help beat fungus but you can go without if you want, my apistogramma have survived without em.

I havent bred rams, but have read a lot about it, as I will hopefully be giving it a go in the near future.

Let us know what you decide.

rams dont particularly care for caves the same way apistos and plecs do. i'd use smooth flat-ish stones or terracotta pots (either broken or unbroken). i also recommend a 20g 2ft as the minimum, unless u plan to move the parents out a short time after spawning
