I just emptied out my slitghly over-crowded 20 gallon odd'n'ends tank which fomerly held fish I wasn't sure what to do with- mainly guppies I didnt like anymore. Anyway, with the fishies nicely re-homed, my tank is almost bare, except for a cory and 3 neon tetras. I may or may not keep these guys.

With all this space opened up, I was wondering what I should get? 20g is not that big, so obviously it would have to be something small, but I want something interesting and unique. Just curious, what fish/inverts/other would you get if you were in my shoes? any suggestions?

If I had 20gal to play with, I'd get some platies and some white skirt tetras. You can get many different colours of platies and they are active fish. Same with white skirts. There is nothing more entertaining in my tank than watching the whiteskirts eat!!

:flex: ▼ Hard to go wrong with some glowlight tetras, especially with neons.
And a couple platies would be cool too... I would suggest getting 2 that are quite
different in color, like a sunset wag and a blue platy. Be sure to get female
platies. And a couple of African dwarf frogs would be entertaining. :flex:

Thanks for all your replies :) Hmm.. a lot of interesting suggestions. The shell dwelling cihlids sound awesome, but I've never kept cichlids before. Would they be a good fish for a cichlid newbie? Puffers also sound interesting. They'll need a species thank though, right? I dont really know much about them yet.

The mention of the glowlight tetras gave me an idea too, mebbe I could just fill the tank with lots of little schooling fish, like tetras, and add one comparatively larger fish as an uhm. . focus so to speak.

As you can see, I'm still mulling it over. The tank is going to be stripped down and redecorated, so there's still time to decide. In the meanwhile, I'm really appreciating your suggestions.
