I wasn't sure which forum to put this in but I have two serpea tetras (fish i got to make sure the tank was ok) and I was wanting to get some angels. I have heard from many sources that they are fin nippers. Do they always bother the angels or fish that have long fins or is it a personality thing? Its also a 55 gallon tank so that might play a part to. there are four other fish but thay are also just fish I got to make sure the tank was ok, two red eyes and two unknown fish. What my main question really is that im asking if I should take the serpeas out before I even place the angels in or should I wait to see how they behave?
Thanks in advance

Since nobody in this forum seems to know about it, should I ask the people in the Cyprinids and Characins forum?

i keep serpaes with my kribs and boulivian buttrflies and they go good now. when i first introduced the butterflies they followed them around for a few days occasionaly 'niping' fins but no real damage was done, now the cichlids fight back and the serpaes dont even bother any more. it was the same with my bristlenose. ithink they're just curious. lol.
Your angels should be fine. keep the serpaes in a school, the more the better and theyll bother each other more than your other fish. Try it and see.

oh yeah this should be on the tropical chit chat forum.

tetras should be kept in large groups, 6+ would be ideal. The more fish there are in the shoal, the less they will bother the other fish in the tank.

Good luck with them!
