i added my fish middle of last week and they seem happy enough but when the lights on they are constantly swimming at the bottom of the tank, when its off they swim all over the tank and seem alot playfull !! Is this simply because the don't like alot of light ? i've got some fast growing plants that will hopefully provide them some cover but whats the best thing to do til then !!

cheers

don't turn the lights on first thing in the morning.
Open the curtains or turn the room lights on an hour or so before turning the tank lights on. If you have more than one light on the tank then turn one on, leave for an hour, then turn the others on.
Fish don't have eyelids so if you turn the tank lights on in a dark room the fish freak. It's a bit like someone shining a torch in your eyes during the middle of the night. Not much fun.
Put some floating plants in the tank or pull up a couple of bits of plant from the gravel and let it float on the surface. Plastic plants can be used for this too.
