Tbh I think she had been though enough and wish I knew more to help her and sorry to hear about you fish
Well, not much could have been done unless you were a vet and had a means of doing the section while putting her in anesthesia. And even then she would probably never heal even if you'd close the wound.
Sorry for her, I hope your fry will grow big and healthy.

Just a shame i couldn help her really and The fry are getting big and only a few days old and they love dried bloodworm pellets and the good old flake so I don't think it will be long till they are ready to come out and the next one goes in there ready to drop if my timings work out right .

Just wonder what the colours will be as the female is a grey/green colour and I have 3 diff type of males in my tank. Orange , Dalmatian , silver/white and all have sail fun aswell so there can be some wierd colours coming.

I've lost quite a lot of fry lately from the main tank. My hoplo did the best he could to defend them, but I have this lyretail swordie that loves to snack on the fry no matter how many times she gets headbutted by the hoplo. At least the ones I've grown in the fry cage are safe and growing. One of them is already released in the main tank and none of the adults bother her.

I like to take guesses on color, some of my fry have changed their coloring since 2 months ago. They seemed to have red backs but now they ended up with red faces instead and mostly black bodies. The fry I released in the tank is currently pink (hence the name Pinky), but she may end up looking like her blood-red mommy, without the red eyes as Pinky's are black.

Just looking at the pictures of her the scales on her back (Around her head) are raised, perhaps she had dropsy. That could explain the fluid build up...
I had a guppy who had dropsy at the same time she dropped her fry, she swelled up pretty quickly and only managed to drop a few fry before she died. (I rescued her from my friend who had no idea there was anything wrong with her) I still have one of her fry in my main community tank, she's happy and healthy.

As for fish surgery? Naw... If anything I would have put poor momma out before she got that far... Not to say I'm a fan of it, but I have used clover oil and Vodka to end fish who were beyond help.

I got her from my lfs heavily preg so it might've been the stress from getting her from there that caused it but it's gutting that I couldn't do anything for her and maybe I was cruel I didn't put her out her misery sooner but maybe its was me me being hopeful.

I kept 3 of her fry and gave 5 more to my neighbour last night as the lfs he went to gave him the worst poss advice which has cost him as of last night 18 of his fish  but by looks of it one of my females is in the early stages of pregnancy so when she has some fry I'll pass them on to him as I feel bad for him.

My fry when she dropped the first 8 in the main tank didn't get bothered by the bigger fish if anything they was quite braisin and would swim in the open which I thought was about strange but I scooped them up just in case some of the adults felt a bit peckish.

Can you get any pics as they sound like they look lovely plus we all love looking a fry lol and pink ones sound awesome

I have some pics of them, but my phone doesn't exactly have a good focus.
Pinky swordie fry with her red mommy Bee:

Her daddy is the black male named Cracker, next to Eris the lyretail.

Pretty hard to show the other two black ones with red face. This one is Ninja (first pic was when Pinky was still in with him).

Ninja again, his younger sibling Sushi looks like him but too small to be seen well. Pic taken yesterday to compare to Pinky's size, Pinky is around 1.5cm.

All 3 of them while they were in fry cage.

Awww that's well cool least you've got some varied colours makes even more special I think and my fry are no where near ready to be released as I took refuge for 5 Molly's off my mate and 3 of them are huge ( double the size of my Molly's ) still hasn't put the males off though lol for the last 3 days my males have been acting like rabbits towards all my females and I can defo tell one is at least a week-1.5 weeks preg as she's now got dark spot which she never had and she's getting bigger so hopefully I'll have better luck with her.

I just noticed today that Pinky has some awesome green fins. They glitter like her dad's body in the light. Her dad has scales that go from violet-blue-green-yellow and his red dorsal and tail fins make him look like a rainbow. If she makes it to adulthood, I bet this will be one swordtail variation I've never had before.

Lol well livebearers seem to be the rabbits of the aquarium. Guppies especially.
My male swordtail used to be obsessed with his pair Bee, but for two months now, they're acting more like a married couple than anything. Bee gets jealous when Cracker courts Eris so he stopped doing that from the day I bought Eris. Now the two are hanging out civilized, eat together, sleep together (not in that way... I mean next to each other) and even keep Pinky between them, they're kind of like a happy family now. Eris is more like that aunt (not related to those two in any way though) who bugs you all the time. LOL.
