My molly had eleven fry about 2 weeks ago, I want to get another tank set up for them and for the platy fry I'm expecting. The thing is, I don't know where to start. I don't want to go too expensive with it, but I want something that I can keep a good number of them in till they are ready to go. :D The fry are in a net in my big tank right now, but I want to get them setled in the other tank soon. Does the new tank need a lot of plants, and what kind of filter will do the job, without being too expensive??

Help Please!! :D :good:

Where are you located? If your in the UK I'm sure you can get a cheap tank with filter that is big enough to grow some fry in from Pets at Home for less than £20, you may need to add a heater but small ones are cheap too. The tanks are sold as starter tanks for kids but are perfect for keeping fry in. I guess walmart will probably sell a similar thing if your in the US.

You won't need to cycle the fry tank, just put some of the filter media from the big tank into the new filter when you add the fry and it should be fine.

Okay, until they get big will it matter how many fry are in it?? ;)

If you have a lot of plants in your tank, a lot of the fry will survive and you wont need to spend your money on buying a new tank. I jsut leave my platy fry in my large tank...which has some large fish and they still survive.

I have a few, but I wanted to plan out what I needed so that I don't splurg, which I tend to do when it comes to pet shopping.

I used a spare 6 gall i had set up with all the lights

i added a fluval 2 and a heater, now waiting for it to cycle before my female gives birth!

I use a 2ft long x 12inch wide x 12inch high tank with a thin layer of gravel and a corner sponge filter bubbling away in it. No lights or plants, just a basic tank. The fry go in there as soon as they are born and stay there until about an inch long. Then they get transferred into a 4ft tank to grow bigger before being sold.
