i run a semi planted 30g at the moment, with 36w`s of t8 lighting, the plants i have in there at the moment are mostly tall stemed ones, the tank is not in direct sun light, and whie it does get some natural light ,it is not a lot.

the problem i am having is with hair algae, i just cant get rid of the stuff for any lenth of time,
i do a 3 day full black out,30% weekly water changes, and it helps a bit, but not for long
i use that florish exel stuff, and while it helps a bit,,it just comes back,
i dont dose with any ferts at all, but i do have between 1 and 2 inches of aquasoil toped by playsand as substrate.

now finaly to my question for you experts out there,

what else can i try? apart from planting more plants? and that is jsut not really what i am after.

thanks for any and all advise

Try dosing a general purpose trace fertiliser about once a week or so and see if that helps, something like Kent botanic grow or Seachem flourish, the algae is telling you there is some sort of deficiency in your dosing or not dosing as in this case. Also your better off with more plants than only a few even in a low light tank as this is, it makes it easier to balance the tank.
