i was just wondering if it could be used for co2. i was thinking about opening a can underwater with a bowl on top of it to catch the escaping gases and just leaving it there for a day. do you think this will work?

ehh i dunno dude seltzer water has lot of other crap in it that might mess your water up... what you could do how ever is...maybe rig a c02 bb pistol.a manualy shoot the c02 into the water ....i dun even know if that work though but it sounds better than opening a can of seltzer...

If you want cheap, effective CO2 then a DIY yeast-based system is by far the most effective.

I wouldn't risk using the technique you suggest.

Another option is to pour in carbonated water. Be very careful though as the sudden CO2 increase can stress fish.

As I say, a yeast-based system is the way forward if you're on a budget.

I agree, you can use diy mix too, you dont need to buy that stuff at the lfs, i use george farmers method for my co2 kit (see the pin on nutrafin co2 kits in the planted section)
