does anyone know what age or size a platy fry is before you would advise selling them?
mine are only 1 month old but there have just been some more new arrivals and my tank is getting dangerously over stocked!!

help please??

Hi there..... Selling is upto you I guess.. its better to let them go a little early then end up with an overcrowding problem!
They are selling youngsters of what look like no more than 6 weeks at my LFS.

I see your in east yorkshire same as me  Maybe we can come to some arangement over your unwanted fry ;)

Drop me an e.mail if your interested. I can seperate my end tank off and put them in there until they get a little bigger. Some pics would be nice of parents and bebies etc.

The best place is to ask your LFS - they all differ in the requirements for selling fries. Some likes them fully grown, others like then a little younger. Most don't like really young fries though.

My LFS takes them when they reach a tad over 1 inch in length. If I do tonnes of water change (and good food), I can get them to that size in about 4 months...

5 of my mollys are about an inch long, and I called a lfs to ask if they would take them today. They said they would sell them as feeders :(

That is unfortunate... So I guess they didn't even offer much for them?

i am setting up a new tank as we speak. it's been cycling for a while so will be ready soon to take some of my smaller tanks occupants and the males! lol. i will wait until they get a little older and ask my lfs about it.
i will take note of ur name littleme1969 and pm you when they're a bit older. i have some sunset mickymouse platy fry but most are red wagtails. 1st lot from mamma mickymouse and dadda wagtail 2nd lot from two wagtails. may be a third lot in there as well. can't keep up lol.
