Can Discus' be put in a 29 gal, if so how many?

29g is a bit on the small size for adult discus but if they were young, and you were planning on moving them to a larger tank in the future, then you could put 6-8 small discus in there. But they will need a bigger tank later.

What if I put maybe 4 in there, could I get away with it?

you can have 4 small discus in there but eventually they will outgrow the tank and need to be moved to a bigger aquarium. Discus get to between 6-12inches long, depending on species. How long it takes depends on food and other factors but within 12 months (probably less), the fish will need a bigger tank.
