Seeding A 2Nd Cycle Tank

Hi,

I bought a Fluval U2 filter for my 60 litre, and i seeded it with some eheim substrate from the mature eheim biofilter (almost 1/3rd of media) in my community tank. I dosed the tank 4ppm ammonia last weekend, but its still showing same ammonia and no nitrite.

I expected that the cycle would've kicked in by now by the mature media...but nout... Once it does kick in won't the 2nd batch of bacteria that converts nitrite already be dead, because the 1st lot hasn't produced nitrite? (unless it is working, but the nitrite is being changed to nitrate before i see it?)
